early 18th century, with unsigned 31in octagonal, swamped, sighted barrel, dovetailed brass bead foresight, later folding twin-leaf rearsight (dovetailed brazed inserts present from earlier sighting system), fancy sideplated internal wheel-lock semi-waterproof mechanism engraved with a stag within a field of feathered scrolls, fancy carved hammer with extended cocking-piece, external cock-spring, automatic pan cover, classic, triangular section fruitwood full-stock with engraved and stained small bone inlays to the comb and cheek-piece, sliding wood-covered bone-inlaid patchbox to the right hand side, horn heel-plate with trefoil bordering (steel shoulder button broken off and missing), sheet-iron finger-grooved trigger guard with 'antler'-shaped rear tang, 'hogs-bristle' trigger with rear set, bone, engraved and stained side nail escutcheons, ramrod throat and forend tip, provision for swivels (missing, rear location filled) and bone-mounted, possibly original ramrod (iron surfaces polished and brushed bright, small losses to edges of forend and ramrod channel
