28 1/2in. nitro reproved Whitworth-steel barrels, rib engraved (faint) 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON. MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL', and gold-inlaid '1', right wall thickness below recommended minimum, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 choke in both, carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks, one hammer replaces, rounded bar, fine acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright finish overall, 14 5/8in. stock (likely replacement) including buttplate, the comb inset at the heel with an escutcheon engraved '1', weight 6lb. 3oz.

Provenance: We are kindly informed by the makers that this shotgun was completed September 1897 for a Mr. Hobbs, and that it was originally paired to shotgun no. 21808.
