circa 1875, with 25in. round barrel with matted sighting flat signed 'WESTLEY RICHARDS LONDON', block and blade fore-sight, seven folding and one standing leaf 'express' rear-sight with adjustable ladder, side of barrel marked 'FOR No.1 CARBINE CARTRIDGE', blued receiver with dropping ramp, left hand side signed by the maker with a triangular trademark, right hand side with swinging safety bar, loop-ended under-lever off-set to the right under trigger-guard, chequered half-pistol grip walnut stock, steel heel-plate with center trapdoor and recess for oil-bottle (missing), chequered walnut splinter forend with wedge fastener, horn tip and under-barrel rib with thimbles for clearing rod (missing), the whole retaining traces of original colour
