30in. bold damascus barrels, rib engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151 NEW BOND ST. LONDON. PATENT BREECH LOADER', Charles Lancaster patent slide-and-tilt action with patent rotary-underlever, recessed bosses, broad striker discs, non-rebounding back-action locks, hammers with spurs of hare's-ear form, best bold acanthus scroll engraving, the triggerguard tang with a nye of pheasants, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/8in. figured stock including steel buttplate, strap engraved with a spaniel flushing a cock pheasant, fore-end with crosspin release and horn finial, weight 7lb. 4oz., in its fine condition brass-cornered two-tiered oak and leather case with removable top tray, the lower tier blocked for cartridges (and with a quantity of fired 14-bore Eley Gastight cartridges), case lid with circular brass escutcheon inscribed 'Capt. Hendry', the front of the case embossed 'REGISTERED 4TH JANY. 1861
