Provenance: We are kindly informed by the makers that this pair of shotguns were completed 1927 for R.C. Morel, Esq.

Ralph Cory 'Bill' Morel was descended from Morels of the Hugenot line who were established farmers in Jersey by the late 17th Century. The family branched further and had become well-known in South Wales by the late 1800s. Indeed, a Morel was the last Mayor of Cardiff before the end of that century. The family owned a shipping line under their name which ran a number of colliers in the, at the time, highly competitive and lucrative coal industry.

'Bill' Morel was a familiar figure on the shooting field, but was also a competent yachtsman, a great horseman and keen Rod. On his death the shotguns were passed down to his nephew, Ralph Roland Morel, who used them to great effect. The pair have remained with the family since completion and so have not been available on the market until now.
