Provenance: The unusual stampings on the stock may imply the gun spent a period of its life in China in the time just after the Boxer rebellion. In a bid to develop good relations with the Chinese, German nationals living in China were requested by the German Colonial authorities not only to speak in Chinese as much as possible, but also to adopt Chinese names.
