A CONTINENTAL 14-BORE PINFIRE DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, UNSIGNED, serial no. 6522, 
 probably German circa 1865, with slightly shortened 29 3/8in. damascus barrels (makers stamp J. BARTL), plain flat sighting rib, scroll and leaf engraving to the action body surrounding oval panels of game-birds, the top-tang engraved with vines surrounding an oval panel with a gold border-line containing a game-bird, the back-action lock-plates engraved with floral borders (traces of gold inlay) and scenes of hunting dogs and foxes chasing game, hammers engraved with vine-leaves (one hammer worn), figured walnut straight-hand stock, chequered at the wrist, raised cheek-piece on the left hand side, iron butt-plate, engraved trigger-guard with horn grip along bottom tang, sprung under-lever opening, permanently attached splinter chequered wood hinged fore-end with swinging take-down catch, iron  sling swivels (some staining and wear throughout)
