A 17-BORE FLINTLOCK CAVALRY CARBINE, UNSIGNED, IN THE STYLE OF A 'PATTERN 1833 MANTON CARBINE', no visible serial number,
circa 1835, with twist-steel round 20in. barrel (fore-sight worn), hooked breech, military proofs, no provision for bayonet, crudely finished lock (possible replacement, at fault) stamped '?&G' (the first part erased), walnut full-stock with brass furniture, wood stamped 'C&G' behind the bottom tang and 'J.R' behind the saddle-bar, trigger-guard tang with raised finger-stop, iron saddle-bar affixed by the rear side-nail and a separate screw through the fore-end, two barrel wedges, brass fore-end cap formed from a flat plate with attached 'trumpet' front pipe, iron mushroom-headed captive stirrup ramrod (some discolouration to iron surfaces, inlet repair behind lock and old age crack to underside of fore-end)
