circa 1824/5, with rebrowned damascus 29 3/4in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'JAMES PURDEY, 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET LONDON' (rubbed), shell engraving at the breech-end, breech-blocks with platinum vents and lines, curved, flat bar-action border-lined locks signed 'PURDEY', engraved with scrolls, shells, serpents and sun-bursts, dolphin headed hammers engraved with scrolls and mythical serpents, highly figured walnut half-stock, re-chequered at the wrist with vacant rectangular escutcheon, iron heel-plate with engraved long spur, large trigger-guard (serial number refreshed on tang) and original ramrod (tip replaced), exposed iron surface brushed bright except where noted, woodwork re-finished with minor old repairs TOGETHER WITH a period re-lined oak case (lid cracked), compartmented and lined in red baize, reproduction trade label to lid and including a powder flask, a leather-bodied shot flask, a rare 'P FRITH' patent double leather shot bandolier, a cap-tin and oil bottle plus a nipple key, turn-screw and cleaning items
