A LATE VICTORIAN OAK TALLBOY,

Product Details

A LATE VICTORIAN OAK 'TALLBOY', overall dimensions of approx. 51in. x 45in. x 20in. and of two main parts with (probably) an oak carcass and oak facings, three full-width drawers (oak veneer facings) and two upper half-width drawers, of dovetail and screw construction throughout, pronounced bulb feet, brass recessed handles and brass four lever locks by J.H. Johnson & Co. of Aligarh, India (key not extant).

Provenance: Whilst not a campaign chest, this piece would almost certainly have been made in India for a member of the British Army or civil service.

J.H. Johnson & Co. set up business in Aligarh in 1870, although it is recorded that they didn't start manufacture there until 1890.
