25in. nitro barrels, tubes engraved 'JOSEPH LANG & SON. 7, BURY STREET, ST. JAMES'S. LONDON. ENGLAND.', 3in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, scalloped-back action, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, acanthus scroll engraving, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 15 1/4in. stock, sling swivels, weight 4lb. 7oz.
Provenance: The vendors have kindly supplied us with the following information.
"The shotgun was made in February 1975 for Lt-Col. James 'Jimmy' Roberts, L.V.O., M.B.E., M.C. (1916 - 1997) of Nepal. A distinguished Gurkha soldier and mountaineer, and founding member of the World Pheasant Association.
"In the early 1990s he gave the gun to his friend Jim Edwards (1934 - 2009) of Nepal, who had worked closely with Col. Roberts in pioneering Himalayan trekking. Jim set-up the famous Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge as a wildlife tourism enterprise and developed the sport of elephant polo.
"The gun subsequently made its was back to England and the Edwards family now offer it for sale."
