pre 1884, with round 5 3/8in. barrel, raised rib signed 'GEBR. MAUSER & CIE, OBERNDORF A. N. WURTTEMBURG 1878 PATENT', crescent fore-sight, notch rear-sight, plain blued hinged frame, plain cylinder with characteristic 'zig-zag' locking slots, provision for hammer safe on the left hand side (missing), chequered walnut swept bag-shaped grips with possible traces of a regimental issue number around the central grip-screws, lanyard ring to base, the whole retaining a fair amount of original finish with some staining, hammer axis screw a possible replacement.
