29in. nitro chopperlump barrels, raised top-ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2', side-ribs, over barrels engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 21, FREDERICK STREET, EDINBURGH.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and 3/4 choke, hold-open toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, selective single triggers, the actions and furniture profusely engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork with finely beaded borders, the triggerplates signed 'DP', retaining virtually full original colour-hardening and finish, 14 7/8in. highly-figured stocks with Prince of Wales grips, slim horn pistolgrip-caps, blank gold escutcheons, weight 7lb. 7oz., in their leather double case with canvas outer and full complement of Dickson accessories
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that they have made just five examples of their triggerplate action over and under guns, this pair being the very first two and the only pair, the other three being single guns. They were completed in 2010.
Literature: The makers have supplied the following letter which accompanies this Lot.
"John Dickson & Son, Pair of 12-bore Rounded-Bar Trigger-plate Action Ejector Shotguns, serial no.8030/1
To whom it may concern,
This letter is to confirm the provenance of the above pair of best shotguns.
"They were ordered by the current owner in October 2006 with 29in. barrels, 14 7/8in. boldly-figured all-wood stocks and with actions engraved by Derek Pegnall. The guns were completed at the workshop in 2010 and were the first two over/unders we built. We went on to build three single over/unders but nos. 8030/1 are the only pair built and therefore unique. I can also state that we have no plans to build further guns of this series in the foreseeable future.
