A SCARCE .577 PERCUSSION SERVICE RIFLE, MODEL 'PATTERN '53' WITH MURCOTT VARIANT RIFLING, no visible serial number,
dated for 1863, with Murcott patent three-groove rifled 39in. barrel (traces of finish), block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, plain signed and dated military style lock with 'V.R.' crown cypher to the tail (traces of colour), walnut three-quarter stock, amateur chequering at wrist, brass furniture, three iron barrel-bands, iron ramrod and later leather sling TOGETHER WITH a socket bayonet in poor condition (no scabbard) and some correspondence
Other Notes: The correspondence included with this lot mentions this rifle as being a prize from the Muzzle Loaders Association Of Great Britain to the vendors father in 1990. The scarcity of the rifling is also discussed.
