A FINE 16-BORE FLINTLOCK SPORTING GUN WITH SPANISH BARREL, no visible serial number,
circa 1765 and fitted with a slightly earlier 36 1/4in. Spanish two-stage barrel signed in gold at the breech 'ESTEVAN BARCELONA 1750' (slight losses to inlay), inlaid silver star-burst fore-sight, applied carved iron rear-sight with flatterned 'ears', the octagonal breech with gold-lined barrel makers mark of 'A PEDRO ESTEVA BARCELONA' within eighteen smaller gold-inlaid decorative marks, side of breech struck with English barrelsmiths mark 'I.B.', gold lined touch-hole, engraved top-tang, flat, bevel-edged lockplate signed 'LE PAGE A PARIS', trophy engraved to the stepped tail, walnut half-stock with fore-end reduced from full carved with foliage in relief around the top-tang, finial and ramrod throat, hand-rail wrist, applied leather cheek-piece cushion to comb, chased and engraved iron furniture with most external screws relief engraved with gold-washed grounds, replacement under-rib with applied thimbles and original horn tipped ramrod
