dated for 1871, with 30 1/2in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, hinged 'flip-open' breech-block with locking catch and pull-back extractor, military-style border-lined lock with the date together with a 'VR' crown cypher, plain three-quarter walnut military style stock with iron furniture, bayonet lug to right hand side of muzzle, iron ramrod, all exposed iron surfaces covered in a preservative laquer
