Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed August 1915 with 30in. barrels for J.M. Tankard and that they subsequently fitted new barrels (length not recorded) in August 1972.
The vendor kindly informs us that he had the new barrels fitted by Mssrs. Purdey and at the same time the gun was thoroughly overhauled by them.
In 1975, the vendor ordered Purdey gun no. 27997, as a No.2 gun, made to match gun 21277. Gun 21277 was serviced by Purdeys at this time and the number '1' was gold-inlaid on the toplever, barrel rib and fore-end finial by them and they also fitted the leather covered recoil pad.
He further informs us that the gun has been serviced as and when necessary by the makers and has functioned well during its time of regular usage. The gun has seen little use in the past fifteen years.
Gun 27997 was sold by Holt's in June 2010.
