A RARE GERMAN 11x60 'MOD. 1871 JAEGER' BOLT-ACTION SERVICE RIFLE, serial no. 9403,
dated 1881, matching numbers throughout, 29 1/2in. barrel with stepped muzzle, bayonet lug, block-mounted blade fore-sight, v-notch rear sight adjustable to 1,600 metres, octagonal nocks form marked with various Imperial German acceptance marks, stamped 'DANZIG' surmounted by a crown, also marked FW surmounted by a crown for Frederick Wilhelm, King of Prussia, fitted with a single sprung ejector blade to the left side of the bolt raceway, spurred triggerguard, stock marked with various Imperial markings, buttplate tang stamped with marks indicating 22nd Pioneer Battalion, sling swivels, cleaning rod. This Lot is sold with a Proof Exemption certificate as unsuitable for use

Other Notes: The Model1871 'Jaeger' was intended for use by Light Infantry Troops (Jaegers) who were picked for their superior marksmanship abilities, and was designed to meet their exacting specifications. The rifle was also issued to Engineers, Fortress Troops and the Navy.
Although normally lacking an ejector, this example has been fitted with a sprung ejector blade which ejects the case at the end of the bolt travel. The extractor has been re-positioned to the right of the bolt head in what appears to have been an original factory modification.
