28in. nitro reproved chopperlump barrels, the tubes engraved 'STEPHEN GRANT & SONS. 7. BURY STREET. St. JAMES'S, LONDON, ENGLAND.' the ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and scroll-engraved at the breech-ends, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, slender W. Baker patent assisted-opening actions, patent no.16778 of 22nd March 1913, with Baker patent ejectors, carved stylised acanthus fences, removable striker discs, top tangs gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, best fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/4in. figured stocks (No.1 with crack at head and right underhorn), weight 6lb., in their lightweight leather case with some accessories

Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this pair of shotguns were completed as 'best quality' in 1934 with 28in. barrels for Capt. Ward Jones. They subsequently fitted new 28in. barrels in 1964.

Research would indicate that the gentleman referred to in the records is Charles Frederick Ward Jones who was born 1884 to Sir Frederick John Jones, 1st Baronet and Annie Elizebeth Benton. He was schooled at Repton and served in the Great War with the rank of captain.
