A GOOD BRITISH 1827 PATTERN RIFLE OFFICERS SWORD TO THE 'CHATSWORTH RIFLES',
circa 1860, with 'Wilkinson' type 32in. spear-point blade, a central panel etched with scroll terminals surrounding the Light Infantry Bugle with the words 'CHATSWORTH' and 'RIFLES' in ribbons above and below, the reverse similar but surrounding a crown and 'VR' monogram, further scrolls etched to both sides of the forte, the ricasso signed 'MEYERS & MORTIMER, CONDUIT ST, BOND ST, LONDON' with inlaid proof mark to reverse, polished steel four-bar half-basket hilt with Rifle bugle device surmounted by a Victorian crown (isolated spots of discolouration), iron backstrap and wire-bound shagreen grip, TOGETHER WITH its polished steel scabbard with nickel throat (some staining) and a derelict oil-cloth sword bag
