English, circa 1855, with 28 1/4in. triple-stage two-piece take-down barrel banded at the join, the tapering round front portion 14 1/2in. in length, full-length borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, borderline engraved back-action lock with acanthus scroll detail, walnut butt with smooth straight-hand grip, iron skeletal folding stock with spring-detent locking, full-length bottom tang with iron trigger-guard bow, smooth half-fore-end with plate front, spring catch and full-length bar, chequered walnut fore-end front-piece attached to the rear-portion of barrel with the corresponding socket; TOGETHER WITH a period dome-topped wood storage case adapted for this arm, compartmented and lined in red baize (faded to pale rose), with individual compartments for the gun in its dismantled state and also containing a flask, oil-bottle, cap-tin and takedown cleaning and loading rod
