A CASED 15-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 11156,
circa 1840-44, with re-browned 30in. twist iron stepped-down barrels, the top-rib signed in flowing script with tailed capital letters but too rubbed for accurate reading, scroll engraving to the rib-end and top-tang, the latter also engraved with game-birds, engraved platinum vented plugs, border and scroll engraved bar-action locks signed 'JNO. MANTON & SON PATENT' with further engraving of game-birds, replacement hammers, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, scroll engraved iron furniture, plain ramrod thimbles and a replacement ramrod TOGETHER WITH a period mahogany-lidded storage case, flush-fitting rectangular ring-handle to lid, reproduction 'C. Playfair' trade label to inside of lid, the case re-lined and compartmented in green baize and complete with a number of accessories including a powder flask, shot flask, nipple-key, turn-screw, cap-tin and an ebony nipple-pot
