A CASED 12-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN SIGNED 'MANTON', THE BARRELS BY JOSEPH MANTON, serial no. 8470,
for 1819 with barrel-makers mark 'C.L.' for Charles Lancaster, later conversion to percussion probably by another or a re-use of barrels, with re-browned 29in. twist iron barrels, the broad slightly concave top-rib unsigned, scroll engraving to the rib-end, borderline and scroll engraved bar-action locks spuriously signed 'MANTON', chequered walnut half-stock, iron furniture, the trigger-guard tang with inlet for a removed grip-safety, plain ramrod thimbles and a period mahogany ramrod TOGETHER WITH a period mahogany storage case, flush-fitting ring-handle to lid, reproduction John Manton trade label to inside of lid, the case partially relined and compartmented in green baize and complete with a number of accessories including a powder flask, shot flask, turn-screw, cap-tin and sundry cleaning items
