26in. partially turned nitro reproved barrel (smoothbored from .300 rook calibre), open sights removed and dovetailed, octagonal breech end engraved 'JAMES PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE, 57 & 58 SOUTH AUDLEY ST. LONDON.', 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. true cyl., sidelever, fluted fences, manual lever side safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, border and scroll engraving, 14 3/4in. figured pistolgrip stock with steel pistolgrip-cap and buttplate, plugs at hand (likely peep-sight removed), weight 4lb. 6oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this Lot was completed in 1887 as a .300 calibre 'E' quality rook rifle for L.E. Chalmers.
