A TURKISH YATAGHAN SWORD WITH SILVER KOFTGARI DECORATED BLADE,
circa 1840, the 24 1/2in. slightly curving blade thickening towards the tip, the left hand side of the blade with a silver koftgari inscription within a panel terminated with arabesques at each end, the one nearest the hilt encompassing a deeply stamped 'tughra' style makers mark, the right hand side with more simplified koftgari decoration, back of blade finely carved with a raised wavy line, yellow metal blade mount with applied wire decoration and mounted with two blue cabachon stones, en-suite hilt with coral decoration (the whole grip with traces of gilding) and mounted with large 'eared' ivory grip-pieces (some age discolouration and cracking), TOGETHER WITH its brass mounted leather covered wooden scabbard with the tip formed into the mask of a sea-monster (dents, some splitting to leather portion)
