A .44 (RUSSIAN) SIX-SHOT DOUBLE-ACTION REVOLVER, MODEL 'D.A. FIRST MODEL', serial no. 6328,
circa 1885, with 4in. barrel, raised sighting rib signed by the maker and with patent dates to 1880, crescent fore-sight, raised rear-sight notch on the lift-up locking catch, cylinder with longitudinal and blind horizontal flutes, plain frame, black chequered hard-rubber grips embossed with the 'S&W' trademark, square-back trigger-guard, the whole mostly stripped of finish, some traces of pitting
Provenance: This revolver is accompanied by a letter of provenance from the makers, part of which states:
"We have researched your Smith & Wesson .44, company records indicate that serial number 6328 was shipped from our factory on July 23, 1883, and delivered to E. Paris Co., Buenos Ayres [sic], Argentine. The records indicate that this revolver was a 4 inch barrel, nickel finish and checkered [sic] black rubber grips."
