CHARLES DRUMMOND FORBES
AN INTERESTING AND SUBSTANTIAL LEATHER-BOUND GAME BOOK DATING TO 1900,
in heavy dark green and grained leather with the embossed gilt monogram 'C.D.F.' and dated to 1900, with oil-paper front and endispiece and brass-mounted lever lock (key missing), the book containing shooting entries from 1900 to 1909 which are accompanied by a plethora of images illustrating general family and shooting life, together with several pictures of Drummond Forbes during his time at Eton College.
Provenance: Charles William Arthur Drummond Forbes was born 16th January 1885 to Arthur Drummond Forbes and Caroline Stirling-Home-Drummond-Moray of Blair Drummond House, Kincardine, Perthshire.
He was schooled at Eton College and the game book has several images of him during his schooldays including one of him playing in a wall game. The entries are detailed and numerous but stop in 1909. It is conjecture, but it is possible that he stopped when he took up residence in London, where he lived at the Euston Plaza Hotel in Upper Woburn Street. He was certainly living at this address when he married in 1910.
At some point he emigrated to Australia's east coast where he died in 1947.
Estimate £300-500
