A SCARCE .650 (REGULATION) FLINTLOCK SERVICE RIFLE SIGNED 'W. KETLAND', MODEL '1823 PATTERN BAKER', no visible serial number,
for 1823, with deeply rifled browned 30 1/4in. barrel, dove-tailed brass blade fore-sight, rear-sight with one standing and two folding leaves (later replacement), rounded top-tang, rounded border line engraved lock signed 'W. KETLAND' at the tail and stamped with a crown over 'GR' forwards of the hammer, walnut straight-hand full-stock (old inlet repair behind lock), raised cheek-piece, brass furniture including elongated spurred trigger-guard bow, ramrod channel with expansion slot, iron swivels and replacement iron ramrod (from a Brunswick Rifle)
Other Notes: W. Ketland were amongst the many independent gunmakers contracted to produce locks for the 1823 Baker, most of which were finally assembled by the Tower Armouries. Fifty locks only were supplied by Ketland, and were delivered on 13th October 1823.
