A GOOD HIGHLAND INFANTRY OFFICERS SWORD, serial no. 47975,
for 1915, with straight 32in. blade etched with battle honours to 1902 together with the cypher of King George 5th and the badge of the Scots Guards, similar badge repeated on the nickel-plated half-basket, wire-bound shagreen hilt, chequered back-strap and pommel, complete with a white patent leather sword-knot with bullion tip TOGETHER WITH its nickel-plated dress scabbard
Other Notes: This sword was formerly the property of the Hon. Victor Alexander Brisbane William Cochrane-Baillie, 3rd Baron Lamington, born on 23 July 1896. The Hon. V.A. Cochrane Baillie was the son of Charles Wallace Alexander Napier Cochrane-Baillie, 2nd Baron Lamington and Hon. Mary Haughton Hozier. Later he married Riette Neilson, daughter of D. A. Neilson, on the 8th June 1922, and finally passed away on the 20th September 1951 at the age of 55.
Educated first at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, then later at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, he went on to gain the rank of Captain in the service of the Scots Guards. Serving in the First World War between 1914 and 1917, he was wounded twice and mentioned in despatches, subsequently being decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.). He succeeded to the title of 3rd Baron Lamington, of Lamington, Co. Lanark on 16 September 1940. This title became extinct on his death.
