AN EXCEPTIONALLY FINE BLADE FROM A WAKIZASHI IN A SHIRASAYA,

Product Details

AN EXCEPTIONALLY FINE BLADE FROM A WAKIZASHI IN A SHIRASAYA,
late 15th century, the slightly curving blade approximately 21 1/2in. long with a fully tempered 'hitatsura hamon', silver 'habaki', unsigned nakago with three mekugi-ana, the whole mounted in a 'shirasaya' with 'sayagaki' and complete with a silk sword-bag

Other Notes: The sayagaki or 'appraisal' written on the shirasaya attests to this blade being an o-suriage wakizashi in shirasaya from the Honami family with their identification on it as a 7th generation Bizen Osafune Tadamitsu (a very competent master sword-smith from the late 15th century). The hamon is a very well executed hitatsura (full temper) and the blade remains in pristine condition.
