24 3/4in. replacement Bohler Rasant-steel nitro chopperlump barrels by W. Furtschegger (Kufstein) with raised matt rib, open sights and ramp-mounted bead fore-sight, the breech end with quickly-detachable telescopic sight mount bases, treble-grip action with raised fences, elongated top strap with bolted automatic safety, gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, bold scroll engraving, the underside with a blank cartouche (engraving removed), chequered front trigger, 14 5/8in. well-figured pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, engraved steel pistolgrip-cap, insert repair to left overhorn, ebonite buttplate, weight 8lb. 12oz., in a brass-cornered oak-lined case with gold-tooled Joseph Lang trade label
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this rifle was completed as a .450 Express with 26in. steel barrels in August 1894 for the Hon. J.A. Brassey.
The Hon. J.A. Brassey was a Liberal M.P. who represented Christchurch, Dorset for a number of years at the turn of the 19th Century. His career ended when he was defeated in the July 1905 elections by Mr. A.B. Smith.
