German, dated for 1783, with two-stage multi-faceted engraved barrel, the top-flat inlayed with a nickel banner signed 'BALLENSTEDT 1783', flat bevel-edged scroll engraved lock-plate with stepped tail signed 'GOTTSCHALK' forwards of the hammer, walnut full-stock with floral carving around the top-tang and trigger-guard strap, border carving around the furniture, sliding wood cover to the patch-box, raised cheek-piece with floral carving at the terminals, iron butt-plate with a wild boar beneath a tree engraved to the top-spur, spurred elongated trigger-guard bow with pillar front, pierced iron barrel-band, period ramrod from another weapon and fitted with sling swivels
