28in. nitro chopperlump barrels, the tubes engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. LONDON. ENGLAND', the ribs engraved with '1' and '2' intertwined with acanthus scroll at the breech ends, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke (both), self-opening actions with removable striker discs, automatic safeties with carved 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguards, the fences carved in relief with foliate scroll set against a matt background, the furniture carved en suite, No. 1 gun carved in relief with acanthus scroll on a matt background interspersed with finely engraved portraits of British game birds including pheasant, partridge, grouse, woodcock and snipe, the underside with finely engraved vignettes of badger, stoat, partridge and pheasant, the triggerguard with a hare, No.2 carved and engraved in a similarly, the underside with finely engraved vignettes of a yawning fox, weasel, a further fox, the triggerguard with a kitten, the triggerplates signed 'S.J. Kelly', fore-end irons engraved 'PURDEY', 15 1/2in. very highly-figured stocks, weight 6lb. 9oz. (both), in their leather double guncase
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this pair of shotguns were completed April 2008 with 28in. barrels, 'ultra-round actions' and engraving by S.J. Kelly.
