We are kindly informed that the damage to the rifle occurred whilst in the possession of the Home Guard during WWII. The rifle was, like many private firearms, requisitioned for use by Local Defence Volunteers. Unfortunately this one was dropped from horseback and returned to the family in its current state at the end of war.
