AN UNUSUAL 20-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE, no visible serial number,
circa 1845, with browned iron barrels, plain broad flat damascus rib signed in silver script 'ANTON BURCKHARDT IN WEIMAR', dovetailed nickel fore-sight, dove-tailed standing notch rear-sight, engraved rib-end and top-tang, border and game-scene engraved bar-action locks signed 'ANTON BURCKHARDT' in silver on the right hand lock and 'WEIMAR' on the left, both locks engraved with a stag in a woodland setting to the tail, heavily carved walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist and fore-end, carved raised cheek-piece, the right hand side of stock with sliding wood patch-box, the fore-end tip carved with the mask of a hunting dog with glass inlaid eyes, black horn furniture including curved molded heel-plate, oversized trigger-guard tang with pistol-grip spur, chequered underside to the molded trigger-guard bow, rococco type finial, set-trigger to the right hand barrel and original mahogany and brass ramrod, much original finish remaining
