for between 1840-45, with browned 30in. barrels signed on the top-rib 'JOHN MANTON & SON, DOVER STREET, LONDON' and marked for number '2' of a pair, colour-hardened breech-ends with engraved rib-end and engraved platinum plugs, fully engraved top-tang, colour-hardened border, scroll and game-scene engraved bar-action locks signed 'JNO MANTON & SON, PATENT', scroll engraved hammers, chequered walnut half-stock with rectangular silver escutcheon at wrist, scroll and game-scene engraved heel-plate spur, oval silver escutcheon to underside of butt engraved '2', scroll engraved trigger-guard tang with grip-safety bar engraved 'SAFETY', border and game-scene engraved trigger-guard bow, pineapple finial surmounted with an engraved terminal, en-suite ramrod throat and original brass-tipped ebony ramrod, the whole retaining much original finish and colour with some odd light corrosion spots
