28in. nitro barrels, rib engraved 'GALLYON & SONS LTD. CAMBRIDGE & KING'S LYNN', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, scroll-back action, toplever and triggerguard engraved with the cornucopia, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, fine bouquet and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining some original colour-hardening and finish, 14 5/8in. stock including buttplate, weight 6lb. 6oz., in its canvas and leather case
Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that gun was sold new on November 23rd 1951 at a cost of £98.10s.0d and that it was offered for sale by them again in 1954 for £75.0s.0d.
Various correspondence regarding the sale between the second buyer and Gallyons accompany the Lot, including notification to the prospective buyer on July 27th 1954 that:
"We beg to advise you that we have today dispatched to you per Passenger train the Gallyon Gun No. 11718 complete with case for your approval.
If you decide to purchase the gun we shall be pleased to shorten the stock to suit your requirements.
