WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS
A RARE 12-BORE PUMP-ACTION REPEATING SHOTGUN, MODEL '1893', serial no. 31136,
for 1897, with re-blued round nitro reproved 30in. barrel, bead fore-sight, makers details and patent dates roll-stamped to the top of barrel near breech-end (rubbed), original blued finish to the open top receiver, external hammer, plain walnut half-pistol grip butt-stock with iron heel-plate, walnut 'corn-cob' fore-end and five-shot magazine tube

Other Notes: Introduced just as the change-over from black-powder to nitro cartridges was occurring, Winchester were inundated with customer complaints that the guns were failing when used with the heavier nitro loads. In response Winchester recalled every model 1893 offering to replace the guns free of charge with the later model 1897 which was specifically designed for nitro powders. All the returned 1893's were destroyed, making the surviving guns extremely scarce
