Provenance: The vendor has informed us that this revolver belonged to his forbear John Henry Anstice.
Anstice was commissioned into the Royal Armoured Corps on 7th April 1916 and saw service in France and Belgium during the Great War. He was transferred twice during the inter-war years and was C.O. of the 5th Battalion Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards at the outbreak of the Second World War, when he took his unit to France. He spent much of the war commanding different battalions of the Armoured Brigade before being appointed a General Staff Officer for Home Forces. He was promoted to the rank of Brigadier in 1948 before retiring the following year.
