A 12-BORE SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 57720,
27 1/4in. nitro barrels with sunken rib, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, automatic safety, beaded border and acanthus scroll engraving, retaining much original colour-hardening and finish, 15 1/2in. stock, weight 6lb. 12oz.
Provenance: This shotgun is accompanied by a maker's certificate stating that is was completed as no.1 of a pair (to match 57737) with 27 1/2in. barrels in July 1938 for Col. P.L. Reid.
Reid fought with the 2nd Battalion Irish Guards during the Great War and was made an O.B.E. in June 1918. He served with the Northamptonshire Home Guard during the Second World War and was made a C.B.E. on 15th December 1944 when the Home Guard were stood-down.
