Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was ordered October 1901 with 29in. barrels by R.H.R. Rimington-Wilson, Esq.

Reginald Henry Rimington Rimington-Wilson was born 3rd November 1852 into a landed Yorkshire family, although his place of birth was Madeira. The family were established in the Bolsterstone area by 1640 when Charles Wilson was the Vicar of Sheffield, and it was he who acquired the land on which a rich seam of coal was later discovered, thus ensuring the family's future wealth.

Rimington-Wilson was schooled at Eton before going up to Trinity College and then embarking on a spell in the army where he served with the Inniskilling Dragoons. He was regarded as one of the greatest shots of his day with Boss being his maker of choice, and the family moor provided him with ample opportunities to hone his abilities. Indeed, Broomhead Moor holds the record grouse bag taken in August 1913 when a team of Guns including Wilson and Payne-Gallwey shot 1,421 1/2 brace breaking the previous record, also held by Broomhead Moor.
