29 1/2in. nitro chopperlump barrels with tapered raised matt top-ribs, side-ribs, 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 3/4 and 1/2 choke (No.1) and 1/4 and imp. cyl. choke (No.2), top barrels engraved 'BOSS & CO. 41. ALBEMARLE STREET. PICCADILLY. LONDON. W.', wall thicknesses circa 20, Boss 1909 patent actions incorporating F. Beesley patent vertical top locking bolts, patent no. 22512 of January 9th 1913, hold-open toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, incorporating Robertson and Henderson patent barrel locking actions, patent no. 3307 of 10th February 1909, and Boss patent improved ejector mechanisms, patent no. 3308 of 10th February 1909, Boss patent single triggers, rolled-edge triggerguards, fine bouquet and scroll engraving, retaining traces of colour-hardening and finish, 15in. highly-figured replacement stocks, fore-ends with insert repairs at finials, weight 7lb. 1oz., in their lightweight leather case with canvas outer

Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this pair of shotguns were ordered in March 1946 with 29 1/2in. barrels by Mr. P.F. Baganis.

Other Notes: The Beesley patent vertical top locking bolts are an exceptionally rare addition to Boss over and under guns. According to research carried out by Donald Dallas, they were used on just a limited number of Live Pigeon guns and double rifles.
