25in. nitro barrel with block-mounted open sights and ramp-mounted bead fore-sight, the receiver (with thumb cutout) mounted with a Hensoldt Diasta 4x32 telescopic sight in quickly-detachable mounts, acanthus scroll engraving, butterknife bolt handle, tang safety, military-release style floorplate carved in relief with a chamois, set triggers, pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, pistolgrip-cap, sling swivels, 14 3/8in. pull including 1/2in. recoil pad

Provenance: The vendor has kindly informed us that this rifle, and also the following two Lots, were formerly owned by one of the prominent Roman families, one of the forebears being Pope Innocenzo the 11th who held the Papacy until his death in 1700.

The family were prominent in many areas of business, but their wealth came primarily from banking. This wealth they put to use, supporting the Viennese during their battle to halt the Turks from occupying their land in the last quarter of the 17th Century. In recognition of their support, King Leopold of Hungary gave the estate at Sirmio (then in Yugoslavia) and also Ilock Castle to the family. The hereditary title of Prince of the Roman Empire was also bestowed on the head of the family during the same period.
