25in. nitro barrels (No.1 replacements by the makers in 1974), matt Churchill ribs gold-inlaid '1' and '2' and 'XXV' at the breech ends, tubes engraved 'CHURCHILL (GUNMAKERS) LTD. 7, BURY STREET, ST. JAMES'S, LONDON, ENGLAND', (No.1) and 'E.J. CHURCHILL (GUN MAKERS) LTD. ORANGE STREET GUNWORKS LEICESTER SQUARE. LONDON', (No.2), 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 3/4 choke (No.1) and 1/4 choke both (No.2), treble-grip actions with hidden third bites, toplevers gold-inlaid '1' and '2', automatic safeties with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' details, fine bouquet and scroll engraving, the undersides engraved 'UTILITY XXV 1935 MODEL' (No.1) and 'UTILITY XXV EASY-OPENING MODEL', (No.2), No.2 retaining traces of original colour-hardening and finish, 15in. figured crossover stocks including 1in. rubber recoil pad (No.1) and 5/8in. ebonite extension and 5/8in. rubber recoil pad (No.2), weight 6lb. 6oz., in their lightweight leather 'V.C.' double motor case
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this pair of shotguns were completed with 25in. barrels for J.T. Bouskell, Esq. The no.1 gun being completed in March 1935 and the no.2 built to match three years later.
