A 12-BORE 'C GRADE' 1885 FOSBERY PATENT 'PARADOX' RIFLED-CHOKE SHOT AND BALL TOPLEVER HAMMER RIFLE, serial no. 15683,
28in. nitro barrels with raised sight rib, leaf sights gold-inlaid for 50 and 100 yards and bead foresight, tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON NITRO "PARADOX" FOSBERY PATENT', 2 1/2in. chambers, Col. G.Vincent Fosbery V.C. patent rifled chokes, patent no. 7568 of 1885, right barrel with dents, carved percussion fences, elongated top strap, rebounding back-action locks, border engraving, retaining full reblued finish, the lockplates gold-inlaid with the makers name, the triggerguard tang gold-inlaid with the serial number,14 3/4in. highly-figured replacement pistolgrip stock with cheekpiece, blued steel pistolgrip-cap and including 1/2in. rubber recoil pad, fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release catch and matching replacement wood, weight 7lb. 13oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the rifle was regulated with '26 grains cordite H.P. cone bullet hand 1-15 swedged new shape & Nobels Ballistite case' on the 9th February 1903, that it was 'finally shot, sights finished ok' on 27th April 1904. It is recorded as being made for 'Manton & Co'.
