W.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, left wall thickness below recommended minimum, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, rolled-edge triggerguard, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, brushed bright finish overall, 15 3/8in. well-figured replacement stock including 3/4in. wooden extension, weight 6lb. 9oz., in its brass-cornered oak and leather case
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was ordered 27th January 1919 by Lt. J.G.L. Dundas, R.N.
John George Lawrence Dundas was born 3rd November 1893 to The Hon. Cospatrick Dundas and Maud Fitzwilliam. He served with the Royal Navy, rising steadily through its ranks and he had become a Vice-Admiral by the time of his death in March 1952.
He fought in both World Wars and was Commander of the Mediterranean Fleet before being appointed Chief of Staff, Mediterranean in 1942. He served in this position until 1944 when he was promoted to Assistant Chief of Naval Staff. He was decorated several times, and in addition to being made a C.B.E. in 1942, he was also awared with the Legion d'honneur, the Croix de Guerre (avec palmes), the Grand Cross, Order of the Pheonix of Greece and the U.S. Legion of Merit.
