A 20-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED FOWLING PIECE, UNSIGNED, no visible serial number,
Continental, circa 1765 with later conversion to percussion, 41 1/2in. two-stage barrel, relief-carved with arabesques at the breech, applied brass boat-shaped fore-sight on a starburst ground to the slightly swamped muzzle, curved, bevel-edged lockplate relief engraved with dogs chasing deer within a field of scrolls, crude hammer, banana-shaped hand-rail half stock (fore-end reduced in antiquity), carved around the furniture and ramrod channel, engraved brass heel-plate with rococco spur featuring a man in medieval costume, trigger-guard engraved with a singing bird, replacement white-metal side-plate, applied brass ramrod thimbles, replacement iron ramrod, exposed iron surfaces brushed bright with some pitting to barrel
