30in. nitro reproved (magnum) damascus barrels with bands of fine scroll engraving at the breech ends, broad rib engraved 'PATENT NO. 3084 WEDGE FAST' in an oval and 'W. W. GREENER 68 HAYMARKET LONDON. WINNER AT THE LONDON GUN TRIALS, 1875. 1877. 1878 & 1879', 3in. chambers, bored approx. 1/2 and full choke;
30in. nitro reproved (magnum) damascus barrels with bands of fine scroll engraving at the breech ends, raised concave matt rib engraved 'PATENT WEDGE FAST' in an oval and with cartouche engraved 'W. W. GREENER. 68. HAYMARKET. LONDON. 2', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. in both, large treble-grip action with carved serpentine fences, hold-open toplever with 'Jumping Jack' release, action flat marked with Greener Facile Princeps patent number, J Needham patent, use number 556 and 'PAT. U.S. JUNE 1871', and small crack, manual side-safety with gold arrow and 'SAFE' detail, fine bouquet and scroll engraving, retaining very slight traces of original colour-hardening, 14 1/2in. highly-figured semi-pistolgrip stock with diamond shaped horn drop points, ornate chequering borders and including horn buttplate, fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release catch, ornate chequering and spearpoint horn finial, weight 8lb. (3in. chambers) and 8lb. 5oz. (2 3/4in. chambers), in its brass-cornered leather case with provision for both sets of barrels
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed in 1884 as an 'A1' best model Facile Princeps self-acting ejector with 30in. barrels for a Mr. Cowan.
