original 28in. nitro chopperlump barrels, rib re-engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE SOUTH AUDLEY STREET LONDON. ENGLAND.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke;
extra 25in. nitro chopperlump barrels (circa 1987) with plain Churchill-rib engraved 'JOHN. K. WILSON & SON. FOR "SPENCE" HARMEN', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. choke in both;
self-opening action with removable striker discs, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, cocking-indicators, best fine bouquet and scroll engraving, retaining some original colour-hardening and finish, 14 3/4in. boldly-figured stock including 1in. leather covered recoil pad (wear to leather), weight 6lb. 8oz. (28in.) and 6lb. 6oz. (25in.), in a leather case with provision for both sets of barrels

Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed November 1937 with 28in. barrels for Lt.-Col. J.D. Bowie. It was subsequently owned by 'Spence' Harmen who commissioned John Wilson to build the additional set of 25in. barrels.

Lt.-Col. J.D. Bowie, D.S.O., M.B. served with the Royal Army Medical Corps during the Great War.
