Product Details

JOSEPH LANG AND SON Ltd
A BRASS-CORNERED OAK AND LEATHER CARTRIDGE MAGAZINE,
for approx. 250 cartridges, brass lock (including key), four oak dividers, five leather lifters, the lid interior with a red leather gold tooled 'JOSEPH LANG & SON Ltd, 102, NEW BOND STREET LONDON, W.' trade label, the exterior lid with the monogram 'T.F.H.' and also stamped 'RUFFORD HALL'

Provenance: The monogram on this magazines stands for Thomas Fermor-Hesketh, 1st Baron Hesketh.

He was born 17th November 1881 to the 7th Baronet; Sir Thomas George Fermor-Hesketh and spent his life as a soldier before representing Enfield as the candidate for the Conservative party. He was schooled at Eton before going up to Cambridge and thence to the R.M.C. Sandhurst.

His grandson, Alexander Fermor-Hesketh, 3rd Baron Hesketh, founded and ran Hesketh Racing which campaigned various home-grown cars with some notable success, prominent of which was winning the 1975 Dutch F1 Grand Prix with the hugely talented James Hunt at the wheel. The Hesketh motorcycle was also borne of the same love of mechanical transport but sadly its success was limited (although this author has covered many miles on one of their machines without mishap).
